What qualities do you need to be a Family Day Care Educator?

Family Day Care represents an excellent opportunity to work from home, build a successful business and earn an income. All Educators registered with Bathurst Family Day Care are considered to be self-employed and are not employed by the Scheme or Bathurst Regional Council. Educators work with small groups of children between the ages of birth to twelve years of age. Educators should be energetic, reliable and can support different family types from diverse cultures and lifestyles.

The personal qualities of an Educator reflect community diversity, empathy, warmth, compassion, flexibility, professionalism & maturity.

What training and skills are required?

Every Educator must complete a training program that includes Child Protection, Senior First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis, Workplace Health & Safety and be enrolled in or have completed Certificate III in Children's Services. Educators must also have Public Liability Insurance and complete a current Working with Children Check.

After the selection and recruitment process, each Educator is assigned a Child Development Officer who will monitor their progress and provide ongoing support and training. Educators must undergo an Educator Workplace Safety Audit upon registration. Educator Workplace Safety Audits are conducted annually to ensure their workplaces comply with National Regulations and Work Health and Safety legislation.
